I cheat - I use the world's most elegant browser, OmniWeb 5. So I just check the "open new windows as a new tab", avoiding spawning new windows all over the place. ^_^

(Actually, for that entry, I just did "Save all linked images" - much easier that way. Easy is good =:)

So I think my full answer would be either (a) like, whatever, dude, or (b) a zip file.

I can explicitly force links to open in a tab if I want, in SeaMonkey (Gods, why didn't they just keep calling it Mozilla... c.c) but people overuse the ability to open links in new windows, I think. It's okay when it's done for a good reason, but there are few good reasons to usurp my ability to use my forward/back buttons at will, and most uses of it are not appropriate in my opinion. I would consider its use in a link from LJ to be barely appropriate at best.

It depends on context. I, and the various communities whov'e used my software, often find it useful to have a small pop up window open for help on various web-apps. That's one context where they're good. Otherwise, I think you should keep it in the window and let the user decide if they want to override.

Tab? What, no Pepsi?

My system refuses to download the Windows thing, but FireFox works well for me--Opera, not so well, but at least it's a backup for when FireFox gets temperamental.

I have to leave some tabs oen anyway, like for Y-Groups, because I'm the Dictator Pro Tem moderator/listowner of several Yahoo groups where I moderate all new members, and noe group in particular get s lot of spam, so I moderate all new members.
