Ick! Hard subs, in 2007? Still, sounds like they just took a subtitled print and scanned it in.. and the black borders on cinematic subtitles are usually fairly fine to begin with. I suppose one could try locating subtitles online and using a suitable player app to overlay those, hardsubs or not.

TMNT I might get around to - sounds like an enjoyable way to spend a little time.

There's occasional gore, copious WTF moments, and nudity, mostly male.
