You know, back at Sony Mobile, we had iTunes set up and we could listen to each other's tunes.
One guy had about 60 GB of tunes, and I thought that was a lot. I had about 30 GB.
Well, I have iTunes set up on my work laptop here, and right now I can see about 8 coworkers.
One of them has 161.73 GB of tunes.
That's 29068 tunes.
157.4 days of continuous.
Holy crap!!!!
I've only barely scratched the surface of this planetary-sized chunk of tuneage.
I'm still in the "A" section (I'm sorting by artist name).
I'm listening to Alison Moyet right now.
Remember her?
She used to be the singer for Yaz (Yazoo in Europe), the synthpop band created by Vince Clark.
Vince Clark used to be with Depeche Mode in the very early days, but he left.
He hooked up with Alison Moyet and created Yaz, producing a few nifty dance tunes, of which
"Don't Go" is probably the most famous.
(o/~ Can't stop now, don't you know, I'll never let you go, don't goooooo!!! o/~)
I always loved her voice.
One day, there was some sort of commotion and Alison was out and Yaz was no more.
Vince hooked up with Andy Bell, a guy who sounded JUST LIKE Alison Moyet and created a little
torch-singing disco act called ERASURE! I'm sure you've heard of it! Boy, is that sarcasm!?!?
Anyway, a little New Wave/Synthpop history lesson for ya.
Oh wow, this guy has "Tales Of Ephidrina" by Amorphous Androgynous. I have that too.
It's a side album by Future Sound Of London, creators of the absolute techno dance classic of all times:
"Papa New Guinea"
The name may not sound familiar but, believe me, if you hear it, you'll know it.
Also, "We Have Explosives", one of my favorite tunes ever and the official WipEout XL theme song.
(In its "Herd Killing" mix)
I wonder if FSOL will ever reach this level of coolness again. Their last one was really bad.
Weird-ass hippie guitar noodlings, and weird-ass in a bad way.
And now, I'm in the "D" section (after skipping over a whole crapload of Dave Matthews Band, WTF?),
listening to some Devo. I've been wanting to hear some Devolution lately, all my Devo CDs are in storage.
Fun stuff like "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA", "Gut Feeling", "The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprize"
(suitable for Valentine's Day?), "Pink Pussycat", "Mongoloid", "S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain)".
Aaaaaaaah, fun happy tunes...
More later...
