Zidane lost it, in more ways than one.
Well, the World Cup is over, and France lost.
Zidane fell for the oldest trick in the book: lashing out at an opposing player's taunt.
The Italian player said something to Zidane, who instantly turned around headbutted him in the chest.
Zidane got red-carded and kicked out of the game, depriving the French team of its lethal weapon.
What a horrible way to end 1) his career and, 2) a World Cup final.
Penalty kicks are teh suxx0rz.
Oh well! It was a good game.
Two Disney movies have been added to my DVD collection: "The Black Hole" and "Atlantis: The Lost Empire".
I got both for $22 with free shipping, thanks to DeepDiscountDVD.com and a special coupon code from Slickdeals.net
That brings my Disney movie collection to a grand total of 5 movies:
"TRON" and "Fantasia" on laserdisc, "The Lion King" on VHS, "The Black Hole" on VHS and DVD, and "Atlantis" on DVD.
I only need one more movie to make my Disney collection complete: "Lilo And Stitch" on DVD.
I need nothing else from Disney.
Unless they do come out with "Song Of The South".
But otherwise, no.
(By the way, Pixar movies are not Disney movies to me, so they're not listed here)
Netflixing
The Goebbels Experiments - "Dear diary, Hitler is a great guy. I think I will kill myself tomorrow."
Whoo, sudden bout of flippancy there. Sorry about that. Anyway, this German documentary features Kenneth Branagh reading
from Paul Goebbels' diary and notes while historical and relevant modern footage plays on the screen. Goebbels was the
Nazi Party's Minister Of Propaganda, and a tortured man, both emotionally and physically. He had a paralyzed foot and
often contemplated suicide. He felt lost, adrift in life, not sure of his true calling until the National Socialist Party
started gaining power. He was attracted to it and spoke at several of their rallies. He met Hitler and was impressed by him.
But even after all this AND marrying a beautiful woman and giving her a bunch of beautiful Aryan kids, he was still angsty
as all hell. The film is pretty interesting, in a train-wreck sort of way. It doesn't really go into the actual methods
used in propaganda, just generalities. You realize how much of a media saturation the Nazi Party was generating, using
radio, newspapers, films, and full-on motion pictures (not just Leni Riefenstahl's work but also things like "Kolbert").
And of course, the rallies. As a friend of mine jokingly remarked once: "They had great art direction."
Serenity - "I wanna hear the part where Jayne gets his butt kicked by a 90-pound girl. That never gets old!"
Okay, you win! "Firefly" was a really cool show, and this movie is also really cool. It shows that character development
and good writing can't replace all the glitzy special effects in the universe (I'm looking at you, George Lucas).
It's too bad the show got cancelled, but it's really amazing that a movie was made based on it.
I mean, that never happens!! Movies based on shows only occur when the series is well-established, and even then, not often.
So anyway, I enjoyed this a lot. It's got a good sense of humor, and it's got neat ideas. We need more stuff like that.
And while it's not exactly Netflixing, I recommend the "Blackbeard" show currently on The National Geographic Channel.
It's definetly a cut above (yarrr!!) the usual reenactement stuff on TLC and Discovery. See it or walk the plank!!
I wound up not seeing "Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Release The Kraken" this weekend.
I will most likely see it next weekend, along with possibly "Superduperman Returns".
