Random Update #763841
There was a weekend and this is what I did...
Warren, his roommate and I were supposed to go to "Route 66 Rendez-Vous" in Riverside on Saturday, but that fell through.
First, Warren got a new job (yea!) so he had to take care of things because of it (boo!) so no "Route 66" for us.
Second, my bother hurt his back and needed me for his gig after all.
So I rented the usual cheap lil' car and went off to buy some needed supplies: Tiger's Balm and Tiger's Balm patches
(which are awesome because they stick to your skin and saturate the covered area with Tiger's Balm for HOURS!) (I keep
mistyping it as "Tiger's BLAM"!), reusable ice packs, some drinks and snacks, gas for the car, blank CDRs, etc...
Had lunch at Del Taco, then hit the nearby Sav-On for Tiger's BLAM stuff. No ice packs though.
Went to Target for the ice packs and to look at toys. Found the ice packs along with a pair of new Hot Wheels and the
Titanium die-cast toy of the "Colonial One" starship from the new "Battlestar Galactica" cable show.
Stopped by Beast Buy, intent on finding "Serious Sam 2" on PC, and failed. Saw some tempting things though, as usual:
"Spy Kids" for only $9.99 (very cool Bond movie for kids, a personal project of Roberto Rodriguez [El Mariachi, Sin City]),
"Starship Troopers: Roughnecks" box-set with bonus episodes (all-CGI Starship Troopers cartoon by Foundation "B-5" Imaging),
the Platinum 4-disc editions of "The Lord Of The Rings" movies (which I still need to buy before they stop making them),
the new Star Wars DVDs (which confuse me by having 2 discs: one with the original version, one with a remastered version),
"Shadow Of The Colossus", "Star Wars Battlefront 2" and "Sly 3" all being PS2 Greatest Hits at $19.99 a pop.
I need to make more money...
Beast Buy no longer seems interested in doing deals on CDRs anymore, so I got what I needed at Office Despot:
Memorex spindle of 50 for $7.99, shweet! I bought 2.
Went home, gave the Tiger's BLAM stuff to the sibling, burned some CDs for his gig, then we packed and headed out.
We stopped at The Parteehouse in Hancock Park to get his sound system, then went to the gig site further East.
Everything was set up and plugged, except one missing cable, which DJ Brother went back to the Parteehouse to fetch.
The gig was near Normandie and Melrose, in a hilly neighborhood, so this was a 3-story house, albeit a small one.
The bottom floor seemed to be good for mostly storage. The house had just been renovated and looked really nice.
Anyway, once everything was cool, I bailed and called up Warren.
I wanted to get together with him and go have dinner somewhere. And I made a huge mistake.
I had warm fuzzies from my visits to various Orange County locations of places like TGIFridays with Spino and friends,
so I wanted to hit one of those somewhere in the San Fernando Valley. I located one in Woodland Hills, and after meeting
up with Warren at his place, we went there. Service was bad, seating was uncomfortable, my Cobb salad was ice-cold and
the blue cheese dressing was anemic. Warren's vegetarian dish was no big deal. The whole experience just sucked.
I don't know what it is about Orange County, but those type of TGIFridays or even Norm's eateries are better down there!
We paid the check (ouch!) and left.
We went back to Warren's place, chatted for a while, then I left. I headed in the general direction of DJ Brother's gig,
as it was almost 2am and he told me he would probably be done by then.
He was still playing when I got there, so I sat down and enjoyed the tunes.
Things wound down at 3am, so we packed up and left.
We stopped by The Parteehouse again to drop off the sound system (the sibling goes there during the week to practice),
their party was just winding down. Then we headed home.
Sunday, we got some brunch at the Pirates' place and went shopping. I scored a pair of fantabulous Nike Shox shoes in
size 16. They're black with yellow trim, so I quickly dubbed them the "Blacktron Nikes" (after the classic Lego space sets).
Since they were bought at Ross, I paid $35 for them. I think they cost something silly like $150 in normal shoe stores.
I got a Smart & Final card and bought two cases of Arrowhead magnums (1.5L). The sibling bought lots of beef jerky.
We stopped at Trader Joe's to pick a couple of missing items, then went home.
The sibling took off to do things at The Parteehouse. I stayed home and caught up on e-mail.
At around 8pm, DJ Bro came back and we had dinner. Then we watched "The Doors" on DVD.
The sib really likes that movie and I can see why: Jim Morrisson and him have several things on common.
The notebooks full of handwritten lyrics and poetry, the trance thing, the mood swings, the insanity.
My brother doesn't drink though, thank goodness.
It's a pretty good movie, much better than "Stoned", which is a recent release about Brian Jones, the one founding member
of the Rolling Stones who is actually dead, and opposed to the rest of the band who are UNdead (especially Keith Richards).
The movie is a bit like an acid trip and DJ Bro fell right asleep 30 minutes into it.
We're gonna give it another shot tonight, since it's a Netflix and it needs to go back.
And speaking of music, my eMusic downloads regenerated themselves today, so I went looking for some cool new choons.
I came away with not one, but two new DJ? Acucrack albums! Industrial metal drum'n'bass goodness is mine, muahahahaha!!
I'll have to look through my save list to see what else I'm gonna, but I'll do that at home.
The brother called me earlier today. He was at USC Medical, getting an exam. It came back clear. This is wonderful news.
It means the other side of his body is not affected at all and all the treatments were a success. He still needs to take
the one pill everyday for a long time, but other than that and the occasional exam, he's clear. Huzzah!!!
My EVDO card just got repoed. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!
I guess there are too many cards in use at the company, so they're collecting them.
Darn it, I won't be able to amaze my friends anymore with my laptop's magical ability to get online anywhere.
Guess I won't need to take my laptop home on weekends anymore then.
I can just lock it up in my desk drawers.
My load has really been lightened.
And now, it's time to go home.
Have a good one y'all.
Catch ya later!
