As a rule, I don't talk about politics in this journal.
Political talk in the current climate seems to consist mostly of "Bush is the worst president EVAR"
and assorted bumper sticker idiocies like "War is not the answer" (I bet they don't even know what
the question is) and "Bush is an idiot" and "The Democrats will save us" and "No war for oil".
And suddenly, this guy I remember as being a dry-witted and amusing sportscaster on local L.A. TV news
is being compared to the likes of Edward R. Murrow. Yes, I'm talking about you, Keith Olbermann.
I grew up in France, where politics permeates every facet of life. It's inescapable.
When I moved to the US, I was delighted to find out that you could get away from politics if you wanted to.
You could spend days, weeks, even months without hearing about politics.
If you didn't bring it up, nobody else did.
This has changed.
And that's too bad.
Especially when it amounts to stupid bumper sticker ideology.
In case anyone is curious on where I stand, here's a longish essay that reflects a lot of my views.
It's written by some guy named Bill Whittle. He has a blog called "Eject! Eject! Eject!".
That's all I know about him, aside from the fact that I like his writing and share his ideas.
As I am suffering from political fatigue, I have, for the very first time ever, turned comments off.
The world is a far more complicated place than one might think.
Enjoy it as much as you can.
