He was definitely out there, kicking ass and taking names. In his early life, the parents, especially my dad, had a nasty habit of putting obstacles in his path. I can't even begin to imagine what he could have achieved if they had actually supported him. (It's a long story. The parents were still kids themselves and I think Dad was jealous.)
