Why surprised? Michelle Light has been doing the same thing for years (http://www.retroland.com/pages/retropedia/toys/item/2585/). Take head plate, attach torso, attach legs, color in for the appropriate species, and voila! :)

Somewhere--I think it was Crush, Yiff, Destroy--I saw an animated GIF where someone took like 50 of her pieces, and animated them one over the other, to see just how generic her posing is. :)
