STR8 AGAINST 8

OHNOEZ! POLITICS!
Relax, this one is mostly for Californians only.
Proposition 8 is icky-poo and positively medieval.
And being French, I know from medieval. :D
Proposition 8 wants to make sure those evil gay people can't get married.
And can't get any of the rights associated with marriage.
And apparently, Prop. 8 is being backed by Mormon money.
Oh, those wacky Utah Saints, meddling in California affairs.
But don't take my word for it.

I am as straight as a Frenchman can be and I think Proposition 8 is stupid and antiquated.
And I'm not the only one.
So herewith, as designed by shatterstripes, a bumper sticker for display purposes.

tugrik came up with the original concept and wanted to print bumper stickers on his awesome printer,
but he ran into a problem with the backing glue. So the image has been released in the wild for people to print.

That's a catchy phrase. Sadly, there are two strikes against me for this bumper sticker.

1. I do not live in California (not since the latter part of the 1970s), and;

2. I neither drive, nor do I have a car. Terror has her license but, sadly no automobile.

Yahknow, I think that the *only* thing that Mormons dislike about Prop 8 is the use of the word "Marriage".

To them, Marriage is a religious institution, and I think they have trouble with a largely non-religious group wanting to take on a religious label.

Not everyone wants to engage in the permanent binding called "marriage" (regardless of sexual orientation), but want the same rights (such as inheritance, hospital visitation, taxation, etc) that governments grant married people.

I am completely surprised that nobody anywhere has instituted a formal "domestic partner" registration. Let the religious keep their marriage. What we really need isn't a "right to marry" but a "right to claim rights".
