I submit for your attention: Daft Punk's article on Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_punk) Daft Punk has sampled, true. This does not by any means define their works as nothing more than creative sampling, and it is unfair to suggest that it does.
I wasn't suggesting that -- but mention the 'S' word and people assume you mean insult. So to hell with me trying to soften the question. Fans lose their ability to understand proper proportional responses anyway.
The question remains: Hollywood is bat-shit crazy when it comes to copyrights, and this isn't an underground music revolt here, it's a movie produced by Disney -- so what is Daft Punk going to do?
Well, ol' Pseudo has a point. Daft Punk likes to dig in the record crates. But they're quite capable of coming up with their own stuff, as heard on their albums. The movie doesn't come out until 2011. Plenty of time for them to come up with something nice and original.
Now, how did I know that you were going to link to "Gantz Graf"? :D Autechre went totally around the bend by "Album 7" or whatever it's called. I used to like 'em a lot, but they lost me when the noise to signal ratio went through the roof. The only reason I even like "Gantz Graf" is because of that stunning video. I'm more partial to something like "Second Bad Vilbel".
