We interrupt this Live Journal to bring you the following important bulletin:

DEVO ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM

As a longtime DEVO fan, this is quite exciting and squeeeeeeeeeeeeee-worthy!
We, as a society, have devolved, just as DEVO predicted. Now they are back to guide us!
All hail Boojie Boy!

Are those the guys who did the Target commercials?

Kidding! I am intrigued.
I actually listened to the entire "Devo 2.0" album- the weird stab they had at re-recording their top hits with a girl cover band.
I didn't think it was all that bad, until it became clear that some of the lyrics had been changed to make certain tracks more sunny.
Next thing you know, it really IS A Beautiful World! *gagcoughspit*

Devo 2.0 was a project for Disney. The Spuds adapted their songs to be sung by a kids "band" (boys and girls!).
Some DEVO fans were aghast, but I saw it as a devious way for DEVO to subvert the young!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah, I suppose the concept was directed more toward an age group than a gender. And I don't object to it, for that matter! But Beautiful World was, as far as I'm concerned, an anthem for the outsiders. Prototypical geekcore stuff, which made good use of Devo's intentionally stilted style.
But when D2 is singing it, it's a beautiful world for YOU... and "I guess me too!"
...
Which, I guess. in practice, is a better message, the ONLY message one could expect from a tween project out of Disney.
But it didn't become a better song- it was more like a jingle for a PSA or something.

YMMV
