The Return Of Content

Random Scheduling

Random will no longer be a daily feature.
I've decided to make it a weekly feature instead.
So, once a week, but it could be ANY DAY!! MUAHAHA!!
So it's still somewhat random. Semi-random. Pseudo-random. Yeah.
Besides, I've pretty much exhausted my supply of wacky pictures.
Also, it was beginning to substitute for actual content, like this message.
You've been warned!

PlayStation 2 Woes

PS2 faw down, go boom.
The Sibling was playing "SSX3" last night. I walked by and my foot snagged the controller's cord.
The PS2 got yanked off the TV stand and crashed on the carpet.
Now, it won't read DVDs anymore. No DVD games or movies.
But it will read CDs though.
So I looked at my PS2 game collection and checked the back of the boxes for the CD and DVD logos.
Out of 35 games total, a whopping two (!2!) games are CD-based. All the others are DVD-based.
I R SKREWD!!
So, I need to find a replacement PS2.
I just need the console itself, I have everything else.
This is the old-style "brick" PS2, not the slim one.
So if any of y'all know someone who has a PS2 gathering dust, lemme know!
I can't afford much right now, but I do have some things for trade, so I'm sure a deal can be made.
Thank you!

What's Eating Zrath-Smiley?

We may not have much money at the Kzinti Freehold right now, but we do eat well.
And by 'well', I mean healthy and tasty and of good quality.
A lot of our recent dinners have involved a special salad created by the Sibling.
We're both French, but he definitely is the Chef of this outfit. :)
The salad is very tasty and is ideal for hot summer weather, such as we're experiencing right now
The salad is a bit like a "Salade Niçoise", a delicacy from Southern France.
Until we can think of a better name, we're calling his version the "Salade Westside". :)
Here's the ingredients list (everything comes from Trader Joe's, but of course!):
cup or 1/2 cup (before cooking) of basmati rice
2 hard-boiled eggs
2 or 3 vine-ripened tomatoes
1 can of albacore tuna in water or oil
1/2 of a Hawaiian sweet onion
1/2 or 1/4 bag of salad (any kind of mixed greens)
olive oil
apple cider vinegar
salt (sea salt preferred)
ground peppercorn
Mix all that up in a big bowl and voila!
For extra tastiness, mix some shredded cheese (Quatro Formagios: 4 Italian cheeses)
into the rice while it's still warm, before adding it to the salad.
Le yummy!!
Serves two ravenous Frenchmen.

State Of Siège

As in the French word for "seat".
My office chair is dead. The connecting point for the pillar is broken, so the chair became a tilt-a-whirl.
It would lean not only forward and back, but also side-to-side and diagonal. Dat's not good!
Then it broke completely.
I called the extended warranty people (I got the warranty when I bought the chair two years ago) and they said
"sure, no problem, we'll send you a gift card for the amount of the chair". So I waited. And waited. And waited.
One month later, I called again. They told me that the damage wasn't covered and that they tried to call me to notify me
of this, but they called the old outdated number eventhough I had given them my new number. WTF?
So, bottom line, no gift card for me, no replacement chair, nothing.
Nice.
In the meantime, I'm using a living room chair instead. It's old, tilted, with almost no padding, and terrible for my back.
When Amp'd tanked, I tried to take my work chair with me but they said no. I had to leave it there. Curses!!
Dammit, my back hurts! The pillows only help a little.
I spend a lot of time on the computer doing work so I really need a GOOD chair!
And right now, I can't get one.
It's getting so bad, I was considering swiping a chair from the local Carl's Jr. dining room! :)
Anybody got an extra chair? Nice and straight! Nice and strong?
Argh...

Ol' Butt-Slider

Warning: racing videogame and automotive blather.

So I've been playing a lot of "Need For Speed: Most Wanted" on the PS2.
My current cars are a nearly maxed-out Renault Clio V6 (yes, a French car), and a Lamborghini Murciélago.
The Renault reminds me of the maxed-out VW Golf W32 that was my first car in "Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix":
it's ultra-grippy, loves to be thrown into turns, and is just all-around fun to drive.
But it doesn't have the top end needed to win certain races.
The Lambo is a beast compared to the Renault and V-Dub.
It's grippy, but it accelerates like a mag-lev train and growls fiercely while doing so.
I can't even imagine what the Ford GT and McLaren Mercedes will be like once I unlock and buy them.
Before the Lambo, I had won the pink slip to some poor racer's Porsche Cayman S.
And when I drove it for the first time, everything I ever read in Car And Driver about the Porsches being tail-happy came back to me.
The Cayman looked for any excuse to get sideways. It was worse than the Dodge Viper.
It was kinda fun at first, but I'm not a big fan of drifting, so I had to sell it.
I bought an Aston-Martin DB8 but it turned out to be heavy and not too grippy.
The Lambo is definitely more appropriate to the job.

The new issue of Car And Driver has a 5-way comparo between famous Hollywood cars:
DeLorean (you know), Ford Gran Torino ("Husky And Starch"), Ford Falcon Interceptor ("Road Warrior"), Batmobile (Adam West version), and Dodge Charger (yeeeeee haw!!).
It's a goofy fun read.

The magazine also pits the Audi R8 (my icon, bottom car) versus the Aston-Martin V-8 Vantage versus the Porsche 911 Turbo, and yes, they complain about the Porsche being tail-happy. Some things never change. :)
I really dig the Audi R8, and if I had a hundred grand to toss at a car (and if I fit in it), I'd get one.
After all, it's $990,000 cheaper than the Bugatti Veyron!! :D
