Ah yes, Tokyo Drift. It supports my feelings that "No matter what it says on the hood or what country the car was made in fast is fast.". I did have one problem with the movie.
The Mustang at the end was real. They really did stuff that Nissan engine in there but they just couldn't get that car to perform for the movie. They ended up putting a big block in it. The power curve of that Nissan even with that 64 MM turbocharger was completely wrong for a car with that sort of weight distribution and gearing. Most people wouldn't know or care, it's just one of those things...
Now, if it was ME who built that car I'd put a shorter duration cam for more low end torque and since I believe it was a six cylender I would have made a pair of try Y headers, one for each set of three cylenders (I don't have the movie on hand at the moment so I don't even remember what KIND of Nissan was in it)
Though I don't sit here and think they should have kept the V8 for the Mustang, it's apparent that since the car was incomplete and time was limited they couldn't get one in time. Musclecars are not great for drifting, especially Mustangs and Camaros because of the wheel hop from leaf spring suspension. Though a good set of ladder bars and a panhard bar is a great start, I drifted my 1969 Camaro nearly perfectly... by accident. I don't know how to drift... I nearly shit myself because I saw the guard rail and KNEW I was gonna hit. HEHEHEH. I dindt, thank goodness.
