Random (Thursday): Digital Flag

Whoops, skipped a day.
Random for yesterday:

These new video billboards have been going up around town for the past 3 months (this one is at Santa Monica and Sepulveda).
They display slideshows of still images, mostly advertising.
No animations yet.
I think this has to do with city ordnances or state laws regarding visual nuisance and/or distractions.
I could be utterly completely wrong.

We're truly (not until these laws are reversed) living IN THE FUTURE!!!

(I do not endorse Yoshinoya, but Zankou Chicken ain't bad!)

I'm not entirely unfond of Yoshinoya. The one in Times Square wasn't half bad anyway.

As for those billboards... they managed to get one or two up before they got all but banned pending some studies. Frankly, I think they're irritating as hell. Of course, one of the ones that got up before the backlash is near street level just across a creek from a major intersection- quite distracting when one tries to drive through there.

Ugh! Pass the angle grinder. =:D (Besides, all that wonderful technology used to display a bloody flag, or some brain-dead advertisements promising HAWT SECS if you'd only drink our carbonated urine? I could make far better use of such a nice display, though a bit of a room extension might be called for. Go on, tell me Wipeout XL wouldn't be cool on that =:)

I took this picture around the 4th of July, hence the bloody flag.
The bulk of advertising I've seen on these so far is for movies and TV shows.
Lots of Simpsons stuff, of course.

Wipeout anything would look cool on that. :)

I believe that with a bit of appropriate programming and a quick patch into the display, one could get away with all sorts of evil...

these are far more annoying
