I LIVE!!!!

I'm cured! I live again!!

Okay, so I wasn't cured Thursday.
And I sure as heck wasn't cured Friday either, because me guts kept twisting and making all sorts of gassy sounds, in places I didn't think I had guts!
Work was an interesting experience, lemme tell you!
Blargh.

The gut twisting started easing up at around quitting time. I limped home after work, and after some therapeutic TV watching ("Backdraft"),
I got myself a salad (California Cobb) and fruit'n'yogurt parfait thingy.
Yeah, I went to McDonalds, and you know what? That salad was damned good! It felt good going down and it stayed down.
And I stopped feeling like one of the gasseous anomalies that the crew of the Enterprise always seemed to be investigating.
And I spent a good night and got some good sleep for the first time since Tuesday Night.

And then the sibling ruined the mood by showing up at 12:15 and arguing that "afternoon" is "after noon".
Stupid Frenchy...

No, he doesn't read my LJ. He sure as heck wouldn't know where to look either.
Ha! Suckertron!!

Some guy was selling CDs on the street so I took a look. Lots of jazz and old mainstream stuff. I wound up picking out 3 CDs:
The Brian Setzer Orchestra, an excellent Coldplay album ("A Rush Of Blood..."), and a scary double-CD compilation from 1990.
It's this BMG UK monstrosity that was probably put together to try to encourage the sale of some of their pop crap at the time.
It's an amusing snapshot of what was popular in Europe in 1990, and it does contain a few gems, like the seemingly out of place
"Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina" by People Will Eat Itself (PWEI), the craptastic "Infinity" by Guru Josh (one of the
lamest ravers ever), New Order and the entire England Football Squad performing "World In Motion", and a track that
I didn't even know existed until I downloaded it last week: "The Only Rhyme That Bites" by MC Tunes And 808 State.
I felt kinda sorry for 808 State. I mean, MC Tunes ain't exactly a very good rapper, obviously, since neither I nor any of you
have probably ever heard of him. And 808 State's contribution to the track doesn't display any of their usual styles or sounds.
I smell a contractual obligation here, or a personal favor.
Anyway, the serendipity was too weird, so I paid the princely sum of a dollar and walked away with my sad-but-true snapshot
of big Euro music business poppiness. I have nefarious plans that involve it. Muahahaha...

(Out of all the early Techno artists who popped up from 1989 onward, 808 State were probably the ones who displayed the most musicianship.
I recommend tracking down their second album, "EX:EL", for some truly wondrous melodies and infectuous beats.
Universal Records was good enough to sign a distribution deal with ZTT, 808's label, so everything 808 shouldn't be too hard to find.
Same goes with other ZTT artists like Art Of Noise, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and Propaganda.
If you like the really bleepy, acid-y stuff, then look for "Newbuild", which is 808's _real_ first album. It was rereleased
recently on Rephlex, which is Richard "Aphex Twin" James' label. It's a good one, though a little dated in places. It's from 1988!)

They don't call me the Techno Kzin for nothing. (grin)
