I still live!
This is a drive-by post, just telling all y'all I'm still alive and kicking.
And farting.
This food poisoning has left me one gasseous individual.
Or maybe it's because I've switched over to eating salads for lunch and sometimes dinner.
I've been eating badly for the past month and it's time to put a stop to it.
So, salads with meat and cheese and dressing in them, but still, salads!
Sampled so far:
Sunday Dinner - McDonalds California Cobb = actually quite tasty.
Monday Lunch - Quizno's Caesar Chicken = not bad, though the dressing was pretty strong.
Tuesday Lunch - Wendy's Chicken Spinach = pretty good, though again, strong dressing.
I must use less dressing.
Dinner tonight? McDonalds salad, don't know which one yet.
So aside from "Spider-Man 2", I have seen other movies.
Sony Screenings:
"Riding Giants" (2004)
Surf's up, dude! This is a radical documentary about riding giant bitchin' waves in Hawaii and No-Cal (someplace called "Mavericks", where freak giant waves occur).
It's directed by Stacy Peralta, veteran skateboarder from back in da days, my days, my brother's days, Doggtown And Z-Boys days. It's fun and at times irreverant,
much like the surfers themselves. Riding giant waves is an artform upon itself, quite different from normal wave riding. It's also incredibly dangerous.
The movie starts off with an overview of the origins of surfing and the culture that grew up around it. You even get to see the original Surf Nazis! Achtung baby!
Then the film focuses on the giant waves and the people who ride them. If you have any kind of interest in surfing, no matter how slight, you have to see this movie.
At The Movies:
"I, Robot" (2004), directed by Alex Proyas ("The Crow", "Dark City")
Okay, look, I like Isaac Asimov as much as the next guy, but his books are a little dull and you just can't make them straight into movies.
The last thing I saw that felt Asimovian was "Bicentennial Man" with Robin Williams.
This one doesn't really feel Asimovian, but it's much better than I thought it would be.
Yes, I wanted to slap Will Smith around for the first 25 minutes of the movie, because he was being Will Smith and a massive jerk. But then, it got better.
The film has bits reminiscent of many other sci-fi movies, including "Minority Report", "AI", "Dark City", and even "The Phantom Menace" (robots on racks!).
The special effects are spectacular. I'm particularly fond of the tall 10-wheeled transport trucks that can drive sideways. And the 'bots are cool.
The script is pretty good, it's a definite whodunit. The acting is solid (you see, Will Smith IS supposed to be an asshole!). It's not all empty calories.
Somewhere between the brilliance of "Spider-Man 2" and the sheer fun of "Hellboy".
The Kzin gives it an 8 out of 10.
Unless you hate Will Smith (and after "The Wild Wild West", who wouldn't?).
Then it's a 6 out of 10.
Oh, go see it anyway!!!!
It's fun!
