The Heat Is On
Boy, is it ever!
It's been damned hot in Los Angeles these past few days.
I'm very-very-very glad to be working in the meat locker known as "my work".
I stepped outside to get lunch today and I scurried quickly back in. It was hot, muggy and unpleasant.
But anyway, this past weekend was fairly eventful...
On Thursday, that lucky

I've heard good things about MFM. I heard it was smaller and friendlier than Anthrocon.
If I ever make it out to an East Coast furry con again, MFM is my first choice.
On Friday, after a long workday, I got home and called Spino, expecting to talk to Sweetie.
To my great surprise, El Spino himself actually answered! I was shocked!
"Have you eaten?", he asked. "Urrrrr, no," I answered. "We'll be right there" he said. "Urrrr, okay," I replied.
It's only after hanging up that I realized I had already eaten. Doh! Well, I could always get dessert or something.
So they call me again to announce their arrival. I go outside to meet them, under the watchful of a whole Latino family
next door. I see Spino, Sweetie and, who's this big guy wearing shorts? Oh wow, it's-a Mario!!
Cripes, I haven't seen him since even longer than Spino! What a treat!!
Mario works in the animation industry and is a fun guy to hang out with. He's currently working on "Fairly OddParents"
and tells us he gets paid on a "fairly oddly" schedule, as in, not often enough. The show makes millions and they can't
be bothered to pay the people who actually get the thing off the ground. Animators get no respect.
So off we go, to Burbank, for some strange reason, under the watchful eye of the Latino neighbors.
We went to a non-descript diner where they had dinner and I had peach pie a la mode.
Which makes it "da peche mode", har har ("peach" in French is "peche").
Afterwards, we went back to Der Spino/Sweetie Haus, where we watched "Rex Steele: Nazi Smasher", an amusing
neo-retro student film cartoon, which was almost shown in front of "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow".
Those wienies at NATO (National Association of Theater Owners) pressured Paramount about that.
They said: "You can have your 10-minute cartoon, but only if you cut 10 minutes from Sky Captain."
Paramount opted to cut the cartoon and leave Sky Captain alone.
NATO is the reason why I toyed with the idea of not going to theaters anymore. After seeing all the stuff cut from
various movies just to keep NATO happy, so they could show it that one extra time a day...
After that, we watched "Master Of The Flying Guillotine", now out on DVD!
Apparently, there wasn't any masters left of this movie, so the DVD is assembled from all the cleanest bits of footage
they could find. Which means that the movie goes from badly-dubbed English to original Cantonese without warning!
Linguistic whiplash y'all!!! And what fun it was!
I didn't get home until 2am or something. Sheesh...
That's all for now. I'll put the rest in another post.
Saturday: 2-hour bus ride to the Estrogen Zone!
Sunday: Swelter at the computer!
Monday: Apples To Apples and killer turkeys!
Stay tuned, true believers!
