zrath: Zrath-Smiley as a TRON program (BondzMaru)

Tralala!!!

So I went to see "Casino Royale" (with cheese, HAR!) last Saturday, and it did rock muchly.
It was gritty and mean and tough and would make Roger Moore go "Dear lord!". This is a good thing.
The intro song was kinda sucky ("You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell). He's no Shirley Bassey, that's for sure!
I recently rented "License To Kill" to get in the mood prior to seeing "Casino Royale", and I have gained a new appreciation
for the Timothy Dalton Bond. He was definitely more from the bitch-slap Connery school of Bond than Moore or Brosnan.
I liked Pierce Brosnan, and Roger Moore had a few good ones ("Live And Let Die", "Spy Who Loved Me", "For Your Eyes Only"),
but now that I'm older, I prefer a tougher, meaner Bond. A more realistic one, if you will.
And that's pretty much what I got with "Casino Royale".
There's a scene where Daniel Craig is fighting some bad guys in a stairway. They're punching and kicking the crap out of
each other and the walls of the stairway are white, at first. As the fight wore on, I started noticing little droplets of
blood on the walls. I don't remember seeing that in a James Bond film in quite a while. It made it look like they were
REALLY fighting, like this was no joke, like this was serious no-holds-barred fight-for-your-life combat!
Dang.
I'm curious to see what the next movie will be like. Will they remake any of the Bond films or do something new?
Or will they tap the non-Fleming Bond books?

I wanted to see "Happy Feet", but there were no showings of it after "Casino Royale", so I opted for "Deja-Vu".
It's the newest Tony Scott/Denzel Washington thriller, and it's a lot less psychedelic than "Domino".
It's more in line with "Man On Fire". Denzel is an ATF agent assigned to investigate the bombing of a ferry in New Orleans.
In short order, he's figured out what kind of bomb was used and where it was placed, which impresses the guys in charge.
Val Kilmer (looking a bit puffy these days) introduces him to an odd group of law enforcement and scientific people who
seem to have this really cool simulation program that can reconstruct and display footage from 4 days ago based on
satellite imagery, security camera footage and all sorts of stuff. Hmmmmmmmm, yeaaaaah....
Also, there's a dead chick who's half-burnt and apparently was dumped in the river an hour before the ferry blewed up,
so it looks like the criminal tried to make it look like she was part of the ferry victims. Yes, but why?!?!
This means something!!!
The movie is not bad. It's got some good tension and some wacky tech.
It was filmed on location in post-Katrina New Orleans, so the landscape is ravaged in places.
By the way, after seeing this film, I will NEVER get in a car with Denzel Washington at the wheel!
The brother can't DRIVE!! Seriously!! He runs red lights and smacks into countless hapless civilian vehicles!
He's a freakin' menace to society!

Two weekends ago, I went to LOSCON.
I will have a separate post for that, with crappy cellphone pics even.
For now, I must away.
See ya!
