Quicky update

Since I hadn't received any e-mails by noon today regarding the job I interviewed for on Monday, I sent them an e-mail to get an update.
I got this back:

"Thanks for checking in.
I've received a slew of resumes for the position and am therefore still screening candidates.
Will let you know once I've made a decision."

The good news? It's not "no"!
The bad news? It's not "yes".
Oh boy...

I drove to Burbank to get my check from the security company.
A whole 10 hours of work! Wooooh! :P
The guy supposed to be getting me more work was not even there! Not in the office! Gone until Friday! Yeaaaaaah! :P
Fark this!

Are we having fun yet?

That reads like something Mischa Hess would type up.

Mischa Hess is the "illustrious grand poobah" of "guest services" for Dragon*Con. She jacked Ellen and I around for half a year about my guest status, then purped out a "sorry, but you're no longer good enough to play in our reindeer games" email.

"The quality and quantity of the applications makes the task a challenging one. Due to the tremendous number of applications received each year, the Guest Committee must often make difficult decisions regarding which applicants are accepted for guest status at the convention. A wide variety of factors are considered when making this determination, including which applicants have an overall "best fit" for the convention. As with any organization, our resources are not limitless and while we would like to extend guest status to you, we are unable to do so at this time. Unfortunately, due to the number of applications, we are unable to provide specific details behind all declines.

We wish you the very best in your pursuits, artistic and otherwise. We do hope that you will apply again in the future."

My reply was... "No, I believe Dragon*Con and I are pretty much done at this point. First, there was the waiting between the time I submitted the application to receiving a final answer. Second, there was the numerous inquiries by my agent Ellen Addlesee that were either ignored, or the assurance of a fast reply which didn't occur until now. Third, that after seven years of attending Dragon*Con as a guest, that I'm given the snub without an explanation.

It's a shame because Ellen, Richard Wright, Michael & Denise Wolff, and several others enjoyed my company when we gathered in Atlanta. I realize a few unhappy people is nothing compared to nearly 40,000 people, but in all honesty, I can still correspond with them via email and/or converse with them on the cellphone. Also, not attending Dragon*Con basically saves me $1,000 in hotel room and meals. Since I make just $100 in sales and commissions, being punted from Dragon*Con saves me $900.

Maybe I'll find another convention. If not, I'm sure I'll do well with public speaking engagements and book signings. So hopefully I won't receive any more invitations to apply for guest status at future Dragon*Cons, because in ALL honesty, I cannot afford it.

I'm sorry it had to end this way, but it was Dragon*Con's choice. At this time the ONLY way I would reconsider attending future events is if I was invited as a guest of honor, and we KNOW that will not ever happen."
