Return Of General Faffing
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Not much going on these days.
My phone doesn't ring. It works fine, it's just that no one calls me.
I'm still looking for better-paying work.
The SACEM wants paperwork that I don't have and don't know if I can get. Things ain't the same in France and the US.
I need to write them a letter (they didn't give me an e-mail address) and explain the situation here versus there.
Yes, an actual letter, in French, that will take a week to get there by mail.
On the other hand, the French attorney handling my grandmother's passing e-mailed me and mentioned that she trusted e-mail more than snail-mail.
Oh yes, apparently my paternal grandmother died a couple of months ago. Those playing at home may remember that the Sibling and I had cut off
all ties to the family back in France, mostly because they were assholes. So the news left me cold.
My ear infection is acting up again, I've lost 20% hearing in the right side due to swelling.
I swear, this thing is seasonal! As soon as October rolls around, wham! No coverage, no money, so no doctor.
I'll just keep the ear clean and get some peroxide to put in.
And wear headphones as little as possible.
From the "I Don't Think It Means What You Think It Means" Department:
L.A. Times.com article entitled: "Stocks gyrate wildly in volatile session"
I don't know about you, but the verb "gyrate" brings to my mind something spinning wildly in place.
I'm picturing the stocks with a hula-hoop around their collective midriff, gyrating wildly!
You know, for kids!
Is this wrongful English usage or am I just needlessly picky?
After a very brief taste of Autumn, Los Angeles Weather Control has cranked the thermostat back up to the low 80s.
At least, it's cool enough at night to not necessitate living-room-futon-relocation for proper sleeping.
But, I'd like to some colder weather for Halloween, plzkthxbye!
I leave you with the latest bizarre Lego ship design from the very talented Nnenn: the Ogre.
Mr. Nnenn's other creations can bee seen here. I recommend the Starfighters, Space and More Space folders, but his other themes are cool too.
More Space contains a replica of a Kilrathi Dralthi fighter from the original "Wing Commander" game.
There's also the player's ship from R*Type.

It is wrongful English usage. Trust me, I'm a translator. ;)
As for the ear, a doctor told me when I got an infection years ago that a gallon of water runs through your sinuses every hour. So drink tons of water and you'll help flush it out.

I've been getting nervous ticks for about two years as the media misuses terms of trajectory. "Spiral" is the one that really gets to me. They use the word, spiral when they really mean "hyperbolic trajectory". The stocks are not whirling around a fixed point in a plane and precessing, they are, uhmm... What's the term here? Oh yeah, they're sinking into the water faster than Jimmy Hoffa's body sunk into the Detroit river with lead weights attached to it. Stocks fell faster than DB Cooper when his parachute didn't open.

Hope your ear gets better quickly.

Yes, quite so, and such is common enough that I no longer grit my teeth at it, but merely bear it and pass it by in favor of another article. Stocks is also a surname of sorts so, rather than wonder who, scratch my head, or get a headache, it is much easier to ignore it, and hope that it goes away.

With communication between you and your family in France, mine is just a few towns and almost a county off, and it's almost the same (though for the most part, I would think they are avoiding me; but that is unfair; my brother in law (one of them) is dying, and my nephew has a type of sleep apnea which can essentially make him die in his sleep, since it is of the variety that could make your heart stop in that state, or so I am informed. That's the one sister who actually made time to come and visit. The other two, I have to call or email when I want to see or hear from them, and there is really very little two-way communication, so I may well be the one estranged from the family, the estranger, rather than the estrangee. Of course, What i just said is not really English either, though the meaning is clear. Yes, ti looks silly, and yes, I can be a very silly person. :p
Still, I hope you feel better soon. I also hope the environment becomes more

And if you really want people to call you, make a pledge to the Firemen's Benevolent Society and then don't send it in!
