Tim James wants to be governor of Alabama. In this ad, he outlines one of the things he would do if elected governor.
As far as I know, this is 100% legit and a real political TV ad.
And it's awesome timing if you ask me! :D

Welcome to Wackyland!!! XD

He's a bigot, but he's right about the saving money part. The DMV would save a couple hundred thousand alone by eliminate the alternative language publications.

Insurance people would love it because they would pay less for accidents, because of fault. Also saves money for public defendants.

It's a horrible idea, mind you. It's bound to be stupid, no matter where you are, but I won't argue that it'll save some money.

Arizona... then Alabama. What the fuck is WRONG with the rest of the union?

It has been asserted that federal transportation subsidies are tied to the multilanguage requirement. Lose the latter, lose the former.

Not that I know the figures, mind you, but if the subsidies don't cover the whole cost of the operation, from written translators and on-site employees that must be maintained for communication, to printing, to shipping, then my statement is still correct. It saves the state some money.

Again, I'm not for this. This is a very isolationist measure, and is a huge step backwards. I just am saying that it might be factual it is going to save them money.

This, of course, doesn't start to talk about what the Insurance Companies are hoping for out of this, mind you...

Yeah, well, if the US wasn't so completely car dependent, I'd be for something like this provided it was coupled with a government sponsored program to help immigrants learn English rapidly. However, since the US, especially Alabama, has a dire lack of mass transit, not being able to drive is crippling for anyone looking to earn a living. Sure you can do it in places like Boston, NYC, perhaps even LA, but there's no place in the South, the Midwest, Southwest(aside from a few cities) or Great Plains where you can get by without having a driver's license. What he's really saying is "I'm going to make it impossible for anyone without a high proficiency in English to earn a living. Oh, and I'm going to bring back Poll Taxes and Poll Tests while I'm at it."

That's exactly my take on it!
Having a car means freedom to go anywhere you need to when you need to.
It also means being able to commute to work.
He would be taking that freedom away, and making it even easier for unscrupulous employers to exploit immigrants.

Part of the requirement for the multilanguage aspect is that you've got legal immigrants (remember, you can't get a license if you're illegal) who still may not speak the so-called native language (Navajo, Cherokee, Lakota, Seminole) too well... so you've got to have forms and testing in different languages, including the primary immigration language, English.

And what about someone who is deaf, and who requires his test to be conducted in American Sign Language?

Never underestimate the power of stupidity, especially in the Southeastern United States.
