I remember voicing concerns over Daft Punk doing the movie soundtrack... seems okay. They might have lost control of elements in the end of that track -- but maybe that's what works in the proper context of the movie. We'll see.
The toys are already out. Beautiful designs, but crappy construction and over-priced :(
Indeed -- my point was, the artistic effort being poured in seems to be paying off... the execution, however, may be under the thumb of bean-counter types :P
Yeah... I'm starting to wonder if they're going to fit the TRON feel, also, at this point. Part of me still wants to give them the benefit of the doubt, but each track released seems less symphonic in it's scope, and while I realize that Electronica HAS changed a lot since the 80's, part of me wonders where the Wonder and Majesty of the soundtrack is going to be.
I mean, if they can manage to sneak in Wonder and Majaesty in a Shooter, they should be able to remember it for TRON...
... unless they got the same people who did Bambi 2 to do this one... Why can't people *listen* to films that they try to make sequals of years later?
Well... the first TRON seemed to feed off of a Spartacus storyline mixed with the one human playing a 'Jesus' figure -- IOWs, Disney didn't have their own material, they just reinvented old material. This has been Disney's biggest strength and weakness since I can remember.
When Disney does a sequel, THEN they have to reach into their own pool of ideas, and reveal they are lacking. It's only when Disney contracts outside help (Lilo & Stitch / Pixar originals) that they do better.
My hope is that Daft's induction in this process hints that they went to outside help for other items, such as plot and design. I like the designs I've seen, but the plot is still hidden (at least, I hope the commercials didn't reveal all the plot there is).
I don't know. I mean, I think we've seen enough to know that the movie itself is going to be as equally shallow as the first film, which is a good thing. You don't really want Deep for TRON anyway. It's more about graphics, action, and the "Majesty of the Machine" anyway. We know going in that we'll be given a variant of the story of Orpheus, and I'm good with that.
Forgive that coin of phrase, but what I mean by Majesty of the Machine is that mainly TRON presents us with a fairy tale land that is about the beautiful world inside the commonplace. Straying too far from TRON's fairy tale roots probably would do it more damage then good, and I don't see any indication that they are going to do that.
What I worry about is that there is an undercurrent with revived franchises to make them more 'adult' and 'mature', and this tends to ruin films. I sense this undercurrent in the people making this film. I just hope that they don't let the desire to appease the older members of the audience ruin what should be a fun FX Blast.
I freely admit to being way out of the loop where modern electronica is concerned, but that soundtrack clip seemed irritatingly redundant to me. That low fluttering warble of a passing recognizer is spine tingling, on the other hand.
