zrath: Zrath-Smiley as a TRON program (Cyborg Love)

So I went to the interview (as mentioned in the previous post), and things were not quite as described by the agency.
(Warning! Incoming MST3K reference!! "Dull surprise!")
The position was for normal testing, not localization testing. Argh. No French for yoooooou!!
Also, it was for the night shift, which actually isn't that big deal to me. I do my best work at night (wink-wink).
Anyway, the guy who interviewed me seemed pretty cool and German. I would probably fit well there.
Maybe I'll know in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I'm gonna keep looking.

Best bumper sticker of the week:
"My German Shepherd is smarter than your honor student"
Le arf!

Sibling update: as predicted, the chemo knocked him on his ass for the first four days.
He's feeling much better now. He was able to go in to Nirvana last night and DJ a full set.
He's back to his ol' cranky self (smirk). Food intake is being carefully monitored.

I'm getting Cartoon Network again. So this widens my viewing choices a teeny bit.
I caught an episode of "Justice League Unlimited" that made me laugh a lot.
It was Part 2 of something called "The Once And Future Thing", had to do with time travel.
(and surprisingly, the episode was NOT written by Brannon Braga) (Trek joke, ask your Trekkie friends)
Anyway, the core JLU people were in the Batman Beyond time period, except everything was a little off.
They fought the jokers from "Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker": Chucko, Dee-Dee, Woof and the gang.
Only, they all had body-modifications of some sort. Woof, the hyena-boy, had metals arms and sharp claws.
Chucko, the big fat clown, had a hoverskirt and a magnetic ball instead of legs. It was weird.
Chucko turned out to be a traitor, so the time-traveling bad guy took him back to dinosaur-reigned Earth and stranded
him there. This didn't bother our clown buddy one bit since he still had his super-strength and his weapons.
"I'll be running this place in a week!" he defiantly shouted at the departing time-dude.
And then he looked up, and noticed a very-very VERY large piece of rock falling from the sky and headed straight for him.
"Oh shoot..."
That's right kids, say hello to the Dino-Killer Asteroid. It smacked poor Chucko in the face.
My reaction was to laugh, and then declare, "wow, that's just MEAN!".
So anyway, lotsa laughs.
I'm planning to try and remember to watch Megas XLR next.

And now, some quickie Netflixing...

Phonebooth - starring that guy with the face, and urrrr... Hmmmm...
Not that good. Matter of fact, downright boring at times. I recommend "Cellular" instead.

I, Robot - from mah man Alex Proyas, starring Will "Jerk" Smith, some hot geek girl, and Zephrem Cochrane.
I saw this in the theater and enjoyed it, once Will Smith toned down the asshole factor 20 minutes into the film.
I wasn't expecting Asimov, otherwise I would have brought a pillow in the theater. I love the man and he came up with
some great stuff, but his writing is a little dry. And I don't think it would translate well to movies.
So anyway, good story, great special effects. I wanted to see it again, and show it to the sibling, who had missed it.
He liked it too. Of course, we're both big Proyas fan (because of "The Crow" and especially "Dark City").
Good stuff!

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Disc 2 - more Masamune Shirow inspired goodness.
A couple of episodes to advance (or hopelessly confuse) the Laughing Man story arc. A couple of standalones.
I tried recording the opening theme music by connecting my PS2 to my computer via Optical cable, but I ran into a problem.
The GITS DVD apparently shuts off the Optical Out port, preventing me from recording anything. Curses!!!

The Dangerous Lives Of Altar Boys - with Jodie Foster and some animation and art by Sister Mary McFarlane.
A special request from the brother. I was not interested, so I didn't watch it.

Paycheck - starring Matt Damon. Or is that Ben Affleck? Whichever one kinda looks like Cary Grant.
This is a John Woo film inspired by a Philip K. Dick short story, so you know what that means!
Mindfuck and gun-to-each-other's-forehead stand-offs! Wooooh!! And you know what? This is a fun little film!
It's got some downright Hitchcockian moments and the cinematography is top-notch. There's a bit less stuff explodey
than you usually get in movies like these, and there's a love story! With Uma Thurman! Uma, Oprah. Oprah, Uma.
Anyway, this movie deserved to do better at the box office. It's actually pretty good. Recommended rental.

Cellular - starring the boy who would be the Human Torch (Chris Evans, in the upcoming Fantastic Four flick).
Also starring Kim Basinger (she makes a great victim who actually fights back) and Jason Statham (Mr. Transporter).
Now, this one, I really liked! It's really well put-together, the acting is rock-solid, the action is entertaining,
there's just enough humor to help relieve some of the tension and trauma ('cause it's pretty traumatic for Kim).
Superior to Phonebooth in almost every way. Well-done and entertaining. Highly recommended rental.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Disc 3 - with this set, I'm starting to feel like I'm not in Kansas anymore.
Episode 9 - "Chat! Chat! Chat!" (aka "12 Angry Cybergeeks") the whole episode takes place in a 3D virtual chatroom,
and the topic of discussion is the Laughing Man. A rather unusual way to do an episode.
Episode 10 - "Jungle Cruise". Absolutely nothing to do with Disneyland. This one was hard to take. A particularly vicious
serial killer must be caught, and the CIA apparently knows who it is. The whole thing enrages Batou, but he won't say why.
Not for the faint of heart, though a lot of the violence is not actually seen, but it is HEARD. Yikes.
Episode 11 - "Portraitz". Another Laughing Man episode, more references to "The Catcher In The Rye", vaguely hallucinatory.
Episode 12 - "Escape From". This episode had me saying WTF? Batou's Fuchikoma (the crab tank) goes off and has an adventure.
I'm looking forward to the next disc in the series. Things are getting interesting and more bizarre.

So which Adult Swim shows do you stay up to watch?

I would have said "Stand Alone Complex", but I'm getting the DVDs, so no.
"Cowboy Bebop", eventhough I've seen all but 3 episodes in the series.
"Trigun" and "Big O" if I'm bored.
"Fullmetal Alchemist", though I think it's one big single story arc.
That's about it.
I don't get the whole "Aquaforce/Sealab/Milkchan" thing.
Though I adore "Space Ghost Coast-To-Coast" and wish I had all the DVDs.
I would also like to see "Cartoon Planet" on DVD.
And "Freakazoid".

"Hugbees!!"

Robot Chicken is the show the Night Crew would make if any of them were in TV production. Since I've dropped out, I dunno if any of them got a sudden opportunity for this, or if there's just a psychic connection somewhere, but everything fits their style and MO.

Damn, I missed that JLU episode yet again! x.x

There's a few mp3's from GITS:SAC on this page here. Someone linked me there for some other stuff and I bookmarked it.

Oh, I forgot to mention in my post that I had gotten ahold of the opening theme.
I used my favorite P2P and found the extended version of it, so I'm cool.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I don't get the whole "Aquaforce/Sealab/Milkchan" thing.

Quite agreed. I've tried and tried to stomach them, but I just don't connect with them.

I think you'll dig Megas. There are lots of little in-jokes you'll likely appreciate. ;X)
