Netflix sends DVDs through the mail in custom envelopes which can be resealed and mailed back. You open an account on their website and build up a queue of DVDs that you prioritize. They mail stuff based on your queue. If an item is out, they mail you the next one in your queue. Turnaround time for me is about 3 working days (they're closed weekends). For example: I mail a movie on Monday (Day 1). Netflix gets it Tuesday (Day 2), and they mail me a new movie. I receive the new movie on Wednesday (Day 3). This is the absolute best case scenario. It sometimes takes more time. If they mail something on Friday, I usually get it on Saturday.
Overall, it's a good service. The only problem is when a movie is popular and it sometimes takes weeks before it's available. But you can watch something else in the meantime, since they keep mailing you stuff.
For about $20/month, you can have 3 movies out at a time. You can opt to have 1 to 10 movies out at a time, but 3 seems most sensible. Return them when you're good and ready.
