But, yes, there are similarities. Leonidas went to war (without the backing of his senators) to repel the Persian invaders while Wallace rose up to repel the English from Scotland (later, without some support from the upper nobility, such as Robert the Bruce). Of course, Leonidas died with glory while Wallace was executed most heinously.
A better parallel would be a Robert the Bruce movie compared to 300. :)
Well, both movies really pissed off the descendants of the "enemy" country in each film. The British mostly rolled their eyes about how they were the Bad Guys in a lot of films that year, while a lot of today's Persians got more vocal about it.
I found some amusement in the fact people got into an uproar about a movie which was based on a comic book which was loosely based on an actual battle.
