We're moving! Well, the division I work in is moving.
We were supposed to move back in July, but that didn't happen. And frankly, I was relieved it didn't.
The new location is much farther away than the current one, and so are all the food places.
It's near the Fox Hills Mall, aka the Bling-Bling Mall, aka the Ghetto Mall.
The move will take place this weekend, so when we come in to work on Monday, we'll be in the new digs.
We went to visit the new building today. It's more cubicle-land than our current location. Here, we have two separate rooms
for the QA people, and I'm in one of them. We have a door we can close and everything. We call it the Batcave because
it's a bit dark, or the Icebox because the air conditioning works really well and we don't have control over it.
The other room is called the Echo Chamber because it's ceilingless and all the sound travels out to the main open space.
I'm glad I'm not in there, what with my sneezing and nose-blowing and coughing, I'd drive people batty!

So anyway, the new place is more like a normal "big office" environment. We're all grouped together on the first floor,
except for the QA Manager and 4 testers who are on the second floor. They, however, get windows, so no boohooing for them, plzkthx!
The cubes are nice and fairly roomy. The side walls are high enough to give you that "WWI Trench Warfare" feel when you're
sitting down and peeking over the top at your colleagues. Achtung baby! The break room is huge and it's got 3 of everything:
microwaves, coffee machines, water coolers. There are also 4 vending machines: ice cream, snacks, food, hot beverages.
Overall, it ain't bad, but damn, it's gonna increase my commute big time. I'll have to take two buses, maybe three.
Blargh...

Sony Screening:
Friday Night Lights (Universal - 2004)
So yeah, the French Kzin and his brother went to see a movie about American High School Football.
And you know what? It kicked ass!
Directed by Peter Berg (who directed the entertaining jungle caper "The Rundown" with The Rock last year), FNL is shot
like a documentary. Based on the true story of Odessa's, TX, Permian High School football team's he-friggin-roic struggle
to win the Texas state championship, it really captures the desolation and emptiness of this small town in 1988.
These kids really go through hell. Heck, they already practically LIVE in hell!
Billy Bob Thorton plays the coach and does a bang-up job. Everybody plays really well in this.
Since there's no big stars and no egoes, the cast is free to concentrate on just acting and being these people.
And since it's '88, you get period music, lots of it, including my favorite band of the time, Public Enemy boyeeeeeee!!
Don't worry, there's rock'n'roll too. The whole soundtrack is pretty good.
This movie is really well done, full of consumate professionalism.
Even if you hate football, it's worth seeing, just to see a bunch of kids and adults struggle and overcome.
Zrath says "check it out".

Sonyflix:
Wholly Moses! (probably Columbia - 1980)
Dear god, what a piece of crap!
Imagine, if you will, "History Of The World: Part I" or "Life Of Brian" done by really untalented people,
a crappy director, and a lousy cast, using a fourth-rate script. Are you in pain yet? I know I am!!!
Poor Dudley Moore, who can be quite funny if he wants to ("Arthur") or he's paired with someone he knows well (Peter Cooke).
He's got the thankless task of headlining this piece of crap. Not even Richard Pryor can salvage this thing.
It's not even good MST3K fodder! It's too cruel for Joel, Mike and The 'Bots.
(sarcasm) And it's not even letterboxed! That's the ultimate insult for me. (/sarcasm)
So to summarize: BLARGH!

And finally, because this is simply too cool to not spread far and wide...
