Dark spud of the Sith
The voice is coming back. I'm still coughing, but the voice is returning!
I soon will be able to return to my night job as headlining lounge lizard at Chez Deano's!
o/~ La mer, qu'on vois dancer le long des golfes clairs, a des reflets d'argents... o/~
(Cough-cough-cough-cough-wheeeeeeeeze...)
Okay, not quite yet.
(That was the French version of "Beyond The Sea", called "La Mer" (The Sea) and performed by Charles Trenet)
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I got my desk and computer set up at the new place, but I have no connection yet.
I must take care of that this weekend (ie: call the guy who set up the router and get the info from him).
The sibling mixed a new mix CD, so we're gonna work on a cover and center label for it this weekend.
It's Further Confusion weekend, so a lot of people are gone and/or offline. Gonna be quiet.
Sony Screening: "Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events"
I approached this one pretty much the same way I approached the first Harry Potter movie.
I had never read the books, nor had I even heard of them. I knew they seemed popular.
The sibling and I hit the first showing, since he had to go to Nirvana afterwards.
This movie seems to be set in the same general universe as the works of Edward Gorey, Charles Addams, Tim Burton,
and movies like "City Of Lost Children" and "Mouse Hunt". It's a sort of alternate world, one that's gothier than
the real one, and where the technology is a little off-kilter, a little more retro.
The casting is pretty solid. Jim Carrey is his usual eccentric self and seems to fully embrace this Count Olaf,
this awful thespian wannabe, this greedy and villainous and heartless cad. Fanged God I hate him!
Billy Connoly is a lot of fun and Meryl Streep is hilarious. And the kids are great. The film is quite enjoyable.
If you're the kind of person who hates sugar-coated Disney fairytale crap, this is for you.
It's wry, funny, kinda painful, has some great visuals, and it's oh so gothy!
And then I watched the movie all over again because my buddy Warren could only make it to the second showing.
He particularly enjoyed the whole Dr. Montgomery Montgomery bit because he likes snakes.
"Oh Petunia, you're such a good girl."
I got myself some 2005 Legos finally! Yea!
I found them at, of all places, Albertson's (it's my store?).
I bought two of the new X-Pod mini-sets: the Arachno Pod and the Monster Pod.
This shows all 8 X-Pods (the 2004 and the 2005 models) plus the bonus black Robot Pod.
I didn't buy any of the 2004s, they were boring. [2004s: Aero (yellow), Wild (red), Auto (blue), and Robo (green)]
The ones for this year are a bit more off-the-wall!
Aside from the Monster Pod (purple and lime green) and the Arachno Pod (orange and red), there's also
the Dragon Pod (various shades of green) and the Aqua Pod (various shades of blue).
This will tide me over until the Episode III sets start coming out.
And speaking of toys, Hasbro has a stroke of genius! See for yourself:
Darth Tater.
Well, it's not like Star Wars hasn't already insinuated itself into everyday life already.
Already...
Special message to Porsupah: go back about 3 entries and read the bit about Captain Scarlet. And give me your opinion!
Oh yeah, it's a three-day weekend for me because work is closed for MLK Day, this Monday. Le whee!
I don't get paid for it. Le double whee!
It's lunchtime and I'm starving! Time to go!
