Lobster-Kzin From Santa Monica!

SEE the red-faced Kzin in formal wear!
CHEER as he keeps the TV Land Awards safe from terrorizorists, or some junk!
THRILL as he prevents people from going in the wrong places!
HEAR him whinge at having to stand for hours on end!
So, yes, I had a security gig yesterday at Santa Monica Airport, doing security for the TV Land Awards.
Since the Quality Assurance field isn't giving me much love, I've widened my search palette.
A friend of the late Sibling works at this big security company, and they're always looking.
I gave it some thought, then called. I went in last week to fill out paperwork and stuff.
My background check is still in progress, and once it's done, I can go through training and get geared up.
But they wanted me for the special event yesterday, so that was my first workday.
And I got a massive head-sunburn from being out there in the open for 8 hours.
Owie owie owie.
Next time, I'm wearing a hat.
I still have my security cap from when I worked security in the '80s.
Since I was outside, I didn't see any of the awards, but I did see Dick Van Dyke.
His limo drove up to me, and he asked me where the back way in was, as he was trying to sneak in. :)
He seems like a really cool guy.
I also saw Robin Williams zoom by in the passenger seat of a black GMC Yukon.
As I figured we wouldn't get any food or drink, except maybe some water, I had lunch before going to work.
And I also brought a couple of frozen Gatorades with me, along with two small bottles of water.
If you put the whole thing in a double paper bag, the frozen Gatorades keep everything inside cool.
It's a trick I developed and perfected with Pascal's help for those long excursions to the hospital.
If this becomes a regular thing, I amy invest in a small cooler.
However, I'm still looking for QA work, I haven't given up on that.
But that damn rent needs to be paid, you know?
As I was filling out the application last week, I came to a specific question and became completely stuck.
It asked me whom should be notified in case of emergency.
And for the first time in my life, I didn't know whom to put down.
You see, I used to put down my parents. After my dad died, I put down my mom only.
After she died, I put down my brother. After he died...
There's no one.
I left it blank.
But I need to put someone in there.
Someone I trust, someone who actually answers their phone, someone who's in the area-ish.
I have a couple of ideas. A few phone calls will be made soon. :)
But I gotta tell you, that was NOT a good feeling.

Oh yeah, I bet you do!
Nice pictures of my bright-red forehead that is now PEELING!
Besides, I don't think it's kosher to take pics on duty.
Sillycorn! :D
