So what's going on my life?
Nothing! Everything!
You know what? My life sucks right now.
No E3, no Califur, no SDCC, no FC, no shoes, no shirt, no service.
Life, don't talk to me about life.
So let's talk about something else!

Le Chocolat Du Jour

Today's chocolate is a powerful strong little number made by Scharffen-Berger.
It's the 41% Cacao Milk Chocolate and it won't be mistaken for a Hershey Bar! Har!
(I don't like really dark chocolate, it's too bitter and it reminds me of coffee! I don't like coffee!)
Here's what it looks like:
Orange!
Hmmmmm, looks fancy and German. Let's flip it over and look at the ingredients:
New York City?!?!?
Hey, look! It's kosher! I must tell my rabbi. But wait a minute... What's this? What does it say?
This stuff's made in BERKELEY!!?!
Get a rope...
Har! Just kidding.
Anyway, let's taste it.
Oh my. This is good. Really really good. Strong too, for milk chocolate.
Hmmmmmm, good stuff!!
Trader Joe's sells this and its dark chocolate brethren for $1.99 a bar (2oz).
The Kzin says "check it out".

And hey, how about some NetFlixing?

After The Sunset - starring Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek, Woody Harrelson, Don Cheadle.
This is a caper comedy. It starts with Pierce and Salma stealing a Napoleon (sacrébleu!) Diamond from the
clutches of FBI agent Woody Harrelson in an extremely sophisticated and gadgety manner. Then our dashing
rogues escape to a life of luxury on some tropical island (I think it's The Bahamas). And six months later,
Pierce starts getting bored. As if on cue, Woody shows up and a-has at Pierce "I know whatcha plannin'!
You gonna waltz onto this ocean liner that happens to be docking here soon and happens to be carrying
the 3rd and final Napoleon diamond (the one you ain't stolen yet) on its way to a Paris museum!"
(though I fail to see something as big as an ocean liner steaming up the Seine, but I digress).
Most caper movies focus on the preparation of the heist and then show us the execution of said heist.
This movie starts with the heist in progress and shows us what happens after. That, in itself, is refreshing.
Also, the movie is quite funny, in an old-school classy sort of way. It's also dramatic. And it's a romance.
This is one of those genre-blending movies.
Pierce is his usual professional self, Salma is HAWT and smart as a whip, Woody ain't as dumb as he looks.
This movie is a lot of fun. If you're looking for something smart and funny, and want to see Salma Hayek
in a bikini (or Pierce Brosnan without a shirt) (or both) for most of the film, this is your movie!

Coming soon on Netflixing: From The Ridiculous To The Sublime!
I have both "Phantom Of The Paradise" and "The Merchant Of Venice" on tap.
The former is a weird Brian De Palma product of the '70s starring Paul Williams (Batman:TAS's The Penguin).
The latter was in theaters last year and stars Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Joseph Fiennes and Lynn Collins.
It should be a nice contrasting experience...

No, I'm probably not renting that recent "Phantom Of The Opera" movie. Okay, maybe to MST3K it.

That's all for now! Nyahahahaha!!
(Cough-cough-cough-cough-hack!)

Scharffen Berger is one of the best chocolate manufacturers, well known to me already. Yum!

Phantom of the Paradise rocks! In a 70's kind of way. Watch the pop bands carefully: the nifty 50's guys, the beach bums and the 70's glam rockers are all actually the same band. The film's head soundman was a LASFS member so we all saw it Back In The Day.

I enjoy dark chocolate, but hate coffee too. Once the chocolate pureness starts getting up to 80% though, its starts to taste like burnt rubber to me.

Strangely enough, Phantom of the Paradise has a huge cult following here in Winnipeg. No one knows why. It played at one theater for years, and a few months ago there was a big anniversary party/con/screening. People in their late 30s/early 40s here can sing along to the soundtrack.
