I had an entry about 75% written, until my computer crashed and took it with it.
So, you're getting the short version.

No more Sonyflix and Sony Screenings. I'm not part of that collective anymore, as of last week.
1 year and 6 months there with no change in status. Contractor position, no benefits, no nothing.
For the same salary I was getting circa 2000 at Activision, doing simple console testing.
The knowledge and skill required for this job was much higher.
Blargh.

Work on Projects X, Y, and Z has therefore intensified.
Project X is of limited interest to y'all. So we shan't talk about it.
Project Y, I've mentioned before. It's the book about my father and his Harley.
Project Z, I may have mentioned before. It's the resurrection of our family's brand identity.
Once Project X is up and running, we can concentrate on Y and Z.
Word.

Not much else to report.
Budget is tighter than ever, frivolity of any kind is right out.
Storage unit rent goes up a full $25 next month. Blargh.
Roommate #1 doesn't believe that the sibling is really my brother. Says we don't look enough alike.
Seems to be under the impression we're gay lovers or something.
BUH!!?!?
Maybe it's because the sibling is here every day and we stay in my room while we work on our projects.
R#1 is a weirdo anyway.
The kitchen remains the scariest kitchen I've ever seen, except for Count Olaf's in
"Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events".
The one clean spot is around the sink, because I've been doing dishes, and the dishes are CLEAN!
The bathtub drains even slower than before. It's friggin' ridiculous.
Somebody was supposed to be over today to root it out by noone came.
I'm looking for a new place.

Good wishes and speedy recovery to Fred "Unca Fred" Patten, we got nasty con crud at Further Confusion (pneumonia?).
I first met him when I started attending C/FO (Cartoon/Fantasy Organization) meetings in Santa Monica in 1986.
These meetings were held at the "Change Of Hobbit" bookstore, first on Pico, then on 2nd Street.
I met Jean "Moebius" Giraud's son there. And over the years, I saw lots of great animé.
A lot of it not even subtitled. I think I kept all the photocopied synopsises that were handed out.
Anyway, feel better and go home, Unca Fred!

I'm worried about Fred as well, apparently it's pneumonia and he probably won't be coming to Anime-LA where he's supposed to be Fan Guest of Honor. Crumbs, he is not getting any younger, is he? LA Fandom has lost so many of his generation lately. We may be going to same con on Sunday; I'm entertaining some friends who are booted out of their house for the day on account of exterminator tenting. This sounded like a good way to entertain them!

I remember when Fred and Mark M. started C/FO, gosh, 1978 or 79 or so? Ran 'toons in the LASFS Clubhouse, then in an offsite rental hall someplace else in the valley, then they went over-the-hill to the West Side. My first exposure to Japanese Animation made later than Astro Boy. Good times!

Ah yeah, Fred and Mark started C/FO. That's why the mascot, Fanta, looks a bit like a skiltaire,
those psychic weasels Mark invented for the "Other Suns" role-playing game. But unlike those gender-ambigious critters, Fanta is definitely and obviously (to the eye) female.
Interesting that they first met at the LASFS Clubhouse, because that's where they meet now!
I joined when there were several C/FOs. The main one met in Inglewood. Mine was in Santa Monica.
And there was another in the Inland Empire somewhere, I think.
I know there were some in other states. The Texas one was home of some famous drama.

Aaaaah, memories...

No more Sonyflix and Sony Screenings.

Well, that smells. I suppose there's always BitTorrent. :) I dare say they didn't bother offering any explanation.. gods, how cheap does a division have to be, to curtail a benefit that costs them so little? (If anything, assuming not every single seat is filled)

Yeep! Storage going up $25 in one jump? Ouch. I think mine, when I had them, notched up by $5 or $10 once or twice. (Silly game, really.. I've spent thousands on storage, all told. I suppose sentimental value counts for a lot. Still, at least all that's in the past - hopefully I'll be able to get everything unboxed again before the Ant Lords of the Crab Nebula rule the world)

And needless to say, yes, I hope Judge Fredd's out and about again shortly. He's unquestionably one of the (very) Good Guys.

Messy sinks. Ugh. Lived with it once, with housemates, and now again, with the family. *sigh* Can we fill the "B" ark with those sorts? Please?

Do you have any spies in Dizknee? I'm itching to see an actual trailer for the Guide, but nothing seems to've been released, beyond many tweaks on the original teaser.

Mmm, anime. Maybe I'll get around to the concluding episodes of Twin Spica tonight.. such a good series, but the end's been a long time coming, as Anime-Fansubs' release schedule slipped from almost real-time, to one episode every two or three months. Shinsen picked it up a couple weeks ago, and released the remaining six in fairly short order. Then there's the second ep of Sukisyo (yay!), and two Yakitate Japan to enjoy.. !

Read the bit after "No more Sonyflix and Sony Screenings".
It's a bit obtuse, but I'm saying I'm not working there anymore.
