Hello and greetings.

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a happy Fourth Of July 2005.
The French are happy to have helped the Americans win their independence from the British.
(Besides, back then, anything that pissed off the Brits was alright by the French!)

My brother and I have just finished a delightful eclectic Fourth of July lunch:
5-layer dip and white corn tortillas, mixed sushi, and insanely good homemade cheeseburgers
(honey wheat buns, aged angus beef steakburgers [humane and hormones-free], Black Diamond sharp white
cheddar, organic ketchup, organic tomatoes, romaine lettuce, sweet and sour mustard from Denmark).
The drink of choice was Orangina (somewhere between orange soda and orange juice, it's a French thing).
All ingredients are from Trader Joe's, of course.

Pascal had chemo last Monday. They apparently used something else and it knocked him on his ass something fierce.
It's a good thing he didn't have to go to Nirvana until Sunday, because I don't think he could have gone.
He's sleeping on the floor behind me as I type this. I hope he regains his strength.
He says he feels like his insides are being "preserved", as in "strawberry preserves".
That does not sound very pleasant.

I'm still working at Naughty Dog. Doing a little bit of overtime here and there.
I'm still working on websites. Just finished one for a French painter friend of my brother.
We're not charging for this one, it's a showcase piece to drum up more business.
Need to start laying the groundwork for another website.

I did manage to watch a couple of films.
I saw "Batman Begins" on IMAX last weekend, and it R0XX0RED!!
On Netflix, I saw "Hidalgo", "National Treasure", and "Be Cool".
"Hidalgo" is a fun adventure film. It's always nice to see Omar Shariff, and Viggo Mortensen makes a good cowboy!
"National Treasure" was amusing in a "Tintin" sort of way. I think the people in France handling the dubbing
understood this because the film is called "Benjamin Gates And The Secret Of The Templars" over there.
Just like one of the Tintin comicbook albums... (grin)
"Be Cool" was amusing in a different way. It's a typical Elmore Leonard screwball comedy. The cast list is
a mile long with everyone from John Travolta to The Rock to Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. The movie pokes fun
at itself a lot ("I hate sequels" quips one of the characters at the beginning of this sequel to "Get Shorty").
I think everyone had fun making this film.
"The Big Red One" still sits on the pile of "to see" movies.
I think we're going to watch it today.
The sibling requested "Beyond The Sea" and watched it while I was at work.
I may not see it because I'm not too interested in a movie about Bobby Darin...
(Checks IMDB to see who plays Bobby...)
Oh, it's Kevin Spacey. And it's also got Bob Hoskins, Kate Bosworth, and John Goodman...
Maybe I will watch it...

What else is going on?
I got new socks! Yea! And new pants! And new shoes! And about time too, my stuff is looking really ragged!
Pascal bought me "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" on DVD. That movie is gorgeous to look at.
I bought him "The Haunting", the original version, which is spooky as all get out.
I got "Johnny Dangerously" on DVD for a measly $7 about three weeks ago. That movie is hilarious!

I'll round this entry out with a random bit of trivia:
The Green Hornet is the Lone Ranger's grand-nephew.

Peace out!

Hope the sibling is feeling better today!

Heh...it must have been Cage week. I watched "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" and "8mm" with him in it a few days ago. I dunno...he seems to be in all these roles but can one really say what type of role he is suited for? He seemed to work decently enough in "8mm" but "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", he was coming up kinda short (at least a friend of mine who reenacts Italian said the uniforms and Italian equipment was pretty accurate and it surprised him to see that).

Pascal bought me "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" on DVD. That movie is gorgeous to look at.

Just watched that too! Yes, visually, it is a really awesome movie. If "Appleseed" had just taken the extra money to render hair as they did in "Final Fantasy", "Appleseed" would have been far more primo than it already is. But, IIRC, that is what you pay for cel-shaded animation.

I like your take on the Independence Day menu. We used to do home-made sushi on Easter. Why not? There were brightly colored eggs involved. Salmon eggs, masago, tamago... hehehe.

"anything that pissed off the Brits was alright by the French!" Sing it, brother! A friend of mine used to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a rebellious fashion, with a "Cinque de Mai" French picnic, to commemorate the =winning= side in that particular conflict. Sometimes I wonder why nobody ever threw rocks at her house with the Tricoleur out front... Oh well, historical illiteracy is everywhere I suppose. :-(

"The Green Hornet is the Lone Ranger's grand-nephew." I think it was Philip Jose Farmer who devised a whole big family tree that connected many of the literary and comic book heroes of the 19th and 20th Centuries, in TARZAN ALIVE! and DOC SAVAGE: HIS APOCALYPTIC LIFE. Fun stuff.
